Gerry Patterson has this guide to cycling in Perpignan in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France
Perpignan was a settlement during Roman times, but it wasn’t until the Middle Ages that the town made its mark. In the 13th century, the kings of Majorca made Perpignan their mainland capital. The main tourist sites date from this time, including the Cathedral of St John the Baptist and the Palace of the Kings of Majorca. Perpignan today is a vibrant city of over 100,000 people and the Capital of Catalan Culture.
The city has several kilometres of double-laned cycling paths/lanes inside the city (mostly along main arteries), and there is a project underway to make 135km of cycling paths, connecting the city with towns in the area.
Perpignan has a bike rental scheme called BIP (in French and Catalan). The town has 15 stations where you can pick up and drop off bicycles, and 150 bikes available to rent throughout the city.
Perpignan has a couple of bike shops; Bouticycle is right in the heart of the city. For bike hire in Perpignan, see our rental listings.

Gerry Patterson lives in Nîmes with his wife, Shoko. When not updating his cycling blog and adding routes to his cycling website, he can be seen – you guessed it – cycling around Languedoc-Roussillon, searching out new and interesting rides.
