Fancy a spot of cycling in a peaceful area of France within reach of the Loire but without the crowds. Look no further ...

I've had an email from Nigel, who owns a lovely little two-bedroomed cottage in some of the best (and least-discovered) cycling country in France. Nigel doesn't have a website, but you can reach him on the contacts above.

Jasmine Cottage is in Prinçay, a commune in the Vienne area of Poitou-Charentes. This is a great little area of France because it gives you access to great cycling combined with great local attractions. It's 40km from Poitiers and just 44km from Saumur, making the heart of the Loire Valley an easy day ride from the front door. For families, it's just 33km to Chasseneuil-du-Poitou – the home of Futuroscope, a highlight of any French childhood.

The cottage itself is a quaint 15th century cottage that has retained its charm and original features through the years.

Nigel, who is keen to welcome more cyclists, offers both B&B (from €80 per night) and self-catering (€800 a week, but shorter stays are also possible). On request, he can also serve up evening meals in the cottage's own little 'bistro'.

"There are lots of great cycling routes here," he tells me.

"The cycling is generally flat, so it's good for families and for less experienced cyclists, but there are also hillier routes within reach for more experienced riders.

"We have four bikes for guest use plus we have a tandem, so you can cycle to the boulangerie for your morning baguette." There's also secure bike storage if you're bringing your own wheels.

There are two double bedrooms, comfortably sleeping 4 people. There are all the usual creature comforts: free wifi, fully self-contained kitchen, TV and DVD/CD players. There's also bath and plunge pool to relax in after a day on the bike, or cook up a storm in the BBQ or pizza oven.

You can make a reservation by calling Nigel on +33 (0)5 49 22 52 85 or +33 (0)6 18 63 20 63, or by emailing him at nigeljohnberry@gmail.com
