Chez les Bons is a proper cyclist-run B&B on the east bank of the Gironde River between Bordeaux and La Rochelle. The owner Adrian has cycled all over the world but you'll be hard-pressed to find him raving about a place like he does the south west of France. His beautiful 200-year-old old Charentais farmhouse sits amid vineyards and sunflowers near the village of Epargnes. There are three B&B rooms, two with en suites. Adrian will happily share his knowledge of the region, which is rich in cycling routes – the Canal de Deux Mers route from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean starts nearby and the EuroVelo 1 Atlantic Coast route is within reach and always popular. There are also lots of safe local roads that are ideal for riding with a map and some local knowledge (Adrian will even go out with you for a spin if you need a riding partner). It goes without saying there are bike facilities galore here, including tools and secure storage for guests to use. English, French, Spanish and Italian spoken.
