Bike routes in the Creuse, Limousin

The Creuse area of the Limousin offers peaceful cycling on routes much less crowded than those in the Loire to the north and in the Dordogne to the south.

Two main long-distance routes cut through the Creuse, both making great multiple day trips or shorter stretches of day rides.

La Véloroute Ouest Creuse covers a distance of 80km, with a mix of flat and hillier parts. It's a quiet route along mostly backroads and coincides with the Santiago de Compostela pilgrims' route.

La Véloroute Creuse Est, meanwhile, is a longer 174km route from the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches and stretching out into the east with two branches to the north-east. The route passes Lac de Vassivière, which has the lovely Raymond Poulidor bike route – full ride report here.
