So, you thought all the wonderful chateaux were in the Loire or Bordeaux, huh? WRONG! This two-day self-guided holiday is based at Brittany's 17th century Château du Bois-Guy (yes, that's where you'll be staying). The château was not much more than a ruin after being abandoned last century, but it's been fully restored to its previous rather magnificent grandeur. It sits in more than 18 hectares of park and woodlands 10km north of Fougères. This is a great tour for cyclists of all abilities. Ride through orchards and flower fields to join the pilgrims at Pontmain, meander through the 1600 hectare forest at Fougères, visit the chateau in Fougères itself, and drop in at the Parc Floral de Haute-Bretagne, a country park with 18 separate gardens. The total distance over the two days is 92km and you won't be riding any further than 55km in a day. Price includes three nights' B&B at the château, plus evening meals, bikes hire, maps, and route advice.
