Hotel Meurice is a Calais hotel steeped in history. Charles de Gaulle and Antoine de Saint Exupéry are just two famous names to have stayed here over the years. The hotel was founded in 1771 by Charles Augustin Meurice, originally a French postmaster who branched out into hospitality to provide comfortable and classy accommodation for English travellers to France. That tradition continues today. We were told about Calais' Hotel Meurice by a cyclist who was looking for an overnight stay near the ferry port. It's a 3-star hotel one street back from the main thoroughfare, so it offers a quiet but centrally located base in the famous ferry town. It offers a range of rooms catering for solo travellers through to families and larger groups. There is a private and secure underground car park.
