This well-planned itinerary makes for a gentle cycling holiday perfectly suited to beginners, wine-lovers and history buffs. The self-guided ride starts in medieval Avignon before pedalling out to the famous Côtes du Rhône wine-making appellation of Châteauneuf du Pape. From here it's on to Uzès to see its centuries-old stone buildings and labyrinth of cobbled streets. Afterwards, the Mistral wind will push you south to the Pont du Gard – the most imposing bridge built during the Roman Empire. But that's not all. Continue towards Boulbon, a charming village nestled against the thyme-laden Montagnette hills, and on to ride in Van Gogh's footsteps to St Remy de Provence and then Roman Arles. Price includes 6 nights' B&B double occupancy, luggage transfers, hybrid bike rental, full road book and maps, and two evening meals. The tour is locally run from Avignon.
