Level of difficulty:
The Gironde Estuary is where the vineyards of the Medoc meet the Garonne river as it flows towards the Atlantic from Bordeaux. This self-guided cycling holiday leads you around this unique area, through the prestigious vineyards of Bordeaux's Medoc, and across the Gironde estuary by ferry to Royan, in the Charente Maritime. Then continue down the right bank of the Garonne, enjoying the landscapes, and exploring the villages of Talmont, Blaye and Bours. The trip sees you take the 'wines road' from the Medoc's grand chateaux to the boutiques of the Cognac, where you can visit distilleries or try a glass of Pineau, which is unique to the Charente. This cycling holiday follows a mix of dedicated bike paths, as well as smaller backroad routes. After each day’s cycling, stay in some of the region’s best hotels and charming guesthouses. Touring bikes and panniers can also be provided.
