Start the day riding through Paris to the train station Gare de Lyon and take your bikes on the train to Fontainebleau for a leisurely 40km day ride. The château and town of Fontainebleau were traditionally one of the four main places of royal residence for the kings of France. This importance is reflected in the both the style of the town's architecture and the size and grandeur of the château. Explore the lively cobbled pedestrian streets, full of cafés, restaurants, food stores and boutiques, and visit the beautiful gardens of the château before riding through the cool green forest to Barbizon, famous as the founding place of the 19th century Realist art movement and its famous residents Jean-François Millet and Théodore Rousseau, whose works can be found in the Musée d'Orsay. Your final stop is Milly-la-Forêt, formerly a walled medieval town famous for its medicinal herbs and French icon Jean Cocteau. End the day back in Paris after a return trip on the RER train.
