Level of difficulty:
Easy, slow pace
This easy self-guided ride takes you through some of the leser-explored villages of the Dordogne and Charente areas of south-west France. Follow river routes with two nights in each location to allow you to get to know the area and its people. The fixed bases also allow you to explore the region on longer rides if you wish. Start at one of the official ‘Plus beaux villages de France’ (Most beautiful villages in France), Aubeterre-sur-Dronne – famous for its subterranean monolithic church. This stunning route runs along the picturesque Dronne valley through the pretty medieval villages of Ribérac and Bourdeilles to the island town of Brantôme, also known as ‘the petit Venice of the Périgord'. The price includes local English-speaking tour rep to get you on your way and to troubleshoot any problems, 5 days' cycling, 5 nights' half-board accommodation (breakfasts and dinners), bike hire and luggage transfers between hotels. Enjoy stunning scenery, follow in the footsteps of 19th century English writer Harrison Barker, and enjoy friendly welcomes at small local hotels or B&Bs with typical French menus.
