Camping or based at small hotels and chambres d'hotes, this holiday explores the heart of Brittany. The ride is split roughly 60/40 between cyclepath and very quiet country lanes. You'll cycle the Nantes-Brest canal tow-path, pass ruined Abbeys, lakes, forests and Breton villages on roads where you rarely see a car. High points are the chateaux at Josselin and Pontivy – one a 'fairy castle' in a medieval town centre the latter a hulking military castle in the Napoleonic town of Pontivy by the Blavet river. Central Brittany is a haven of peace, far from the coastal tourist traps with countryside much like that of the south-west of England 50 years ago. Add great places to eat, history everywhere and friendly natives to make a perfect first cycling holiday in France. Price includes all hire (top-quality bikes + camping equipment for the 'camping' option) – hotel accommodation + routes, maps and full back-up.
All accommodation has been checked to ensure it meets our cycle-friendly criteria. We also deal with tour operators personally before adding them to the site. To recommend a great French cycling holiday or a nice bike-friendly place to stay, please email lyn@freewheelingfrance.com
