Mighty Ventoux by Mountainbike

Enjoys bountiful sun and single tracks around the Giant of Provence

Offered by:
France Bike Trips

Phone number:
+33 (0)4 58 14 04 35

Tour length:
3, 4 or 6 day options available

Price:
Self-guided €295; Guided €405

The Ventoux claims mythical status among cyclists – especially road riders. But it's also a mountainbiker's delight, with trails crossing the mont and the nearby Dentelles de Montmirail – across their limestone plateaus and through the vineyards of Gigondas and Vacqueyras. There are also trails across the Baronnies, the Drôme Provençale's beating heart of lavender fields, olive groves and pine forests. There are two offroad ascents of the Ventoux, and this tour takes in at least one of them (transfers to the top are available if you need them). The descent is a dream run – many of the trails "hidden" and ridden usually only by locals. The price of this tour includes fully qualified English-speaking mountain bike guide, guesthouse accommodation, all breakfasts and picnic lunches, plus 3- and 4-course dinners, and luggage transfers. The tour is available guided or self-guided – self-guided riders will receive detailed travel documents, highlighted maps and GPS tracks. This tour is electric MTB compatible.

Provence is one of France’s cycling heartlands. The landscape is a mix of wide valleys, small mountain ranges, such as the Alpilles, and dramatic gorges. Whilst soaking all of this in, the silhouette of Mont Ventoux is never far from view. Will you go for the summit? Highlights include the twisting climb up the Val d’Enfer and the views from Baux-de-Provence at the top, the picturesque hilltop villages of Provence and the climb of Mont Ventoux (or at least a visit to Bedoin!) Villages & Valleys of Provence

Cycle around the romantic landscapes of Luberon

Offered by:
Inntravel

Phone number:
+44 (0)1653 617003

Tour length:
6 nights

Price:
From £1145pp

There’s a reason A Year in Provence author Peter Mayle chose to settle in the Luberon: in a country of magnificent regions and picturesque villages perchés, Provence’s Luberon arguably takes top prize. Colourful hillsides of vines, cherry orchards, olive groves and truffle-oak plantations are dotted with a never-ending supply of proud and defiant medieval villages, each perched high above the plains. These historic villages are all connected by small country lanes, making the bicycle the perfect way to get around. Visit Gordes with its ancient homes perched dizzyingly high atop the valley; wonder at Roussillon and its colourful buildings in every hue from pale yellow to deep red; explore Lacoste and the ruins of a castle once owned by the notorious Marquis de Sade; and test out the mysterious and mystical powers of the spring at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Then, at the holiday’s end, make your way towards Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, home to one of France’s most renowned weekly markets, and the uncontested antiques capital of Provence. The price of tour includes 6 nights' accommodation, 5 dinners, 6 breakfasts, luggage transportation, route notes and maps, a high-quality bicycle (with ebikes available).
